Why Institutions Choose CultureX

Institutions invest heavily in research, workforce development, educational programs, and community engagement.

Yet translating information does not necessarily ensure that employees are prepared to communicate it, communities can meaningfully engage with it, or institutional objectives are achieved.

Effective implementation requires more than linguistic accuracy. It requires technical understanding, cultural alignment, and meaningful participation.

The Structural Gap

Institutions often have bilingual personnel, translated materials, and established outreach programs. However, these resources do not automatically ensure effective implementation.

Potential gaps include:

  • Technical training that does not adequately prepare employees for multilingual program delivery.

  • Educational materials that are linguistically accurate but insufficiently adapted to audience needs.

  • Limited mechanisms for identifying and responding to challenges reported by bilingual staff.

  • Community engagement processes that measure attendance without adequately evaluating meaningful participation in group settings.

  • Communication strategies that end at delivery rather than assessing understanding and application.

When these gaps remain unaddressed, institutions may experience reduced program engagement, additional staff workload, inefficient use of resources, or difficulties achieving their outreach and educational objectives.

CultureX helps organizations identify where those gaps exist, understand their operational consequences, and develop targeted solutions.

“What good is an abundance of scientific knowledge if it remains in the hands of a few? Knowledge should be accessible to all—something people can understand, apply, and use to improve their lives, regardless of their circumstances or cultural background.”

—Fernanda Ariza, MS

About the Founder

Fernanda Ariza, MS, is a bilingual cultural strategist and founder of CultureX Consulting & Language Services LLC. Her interdisciplinary background combines biomedical research, public health education, cultural adaptation, and community engagement strategy.

Having studied and worked within higher education institutions in both Mexico and the United States, Fernanda brings a cross-cultural perspective informed by scientific training, institutional experience, and seven years with the University of Illinois’ former SNAP-Ed program, a federally funded nutrition education and obesity prevention initiative.

As the program’s only statewide Cultural Specialist, she advised leadership teams on cultural criteria, curriculum adaptation, digital communication strategy, and bilingual workforce development. She developed guidance to improve multilingual educational materials and supported Spanish-language training that helped bilingual professionals understand technical content originally delivered in English.

Drawing on experience across scientific research, institutional leadership, and community-based education, Fernanda founded CultureX to help institutions, businesses, and organizations serving diverse communities identify where communication and participation break down, develop and test culturally responsive solutions, and build the cultural competence of their teams through specialized guidance and ongoing partnerships.

CultureX helps organizations develop the internal competence, practices, and resources to sustain this work independently, while remaining a strategic partner for new initiatives, complex challenges, and evolving community needs.

Our goal is to make research-based information not only accessible, but understandable, personally relevant, and actionable for Hispanic and Spanish-speaking communities across diverse Latin American cultural backgrounds—while reducing the burden on institutional staff, particularly bilingual personnel, and improving existing community engagement efforts.
